The Five Pillars of Islam, Shahada, Zakat, Fasting, Hajj, and Salah, form the ultimate foundation of a Muslim's faith and daily life. Each pillar carries immense blessings and irreplaceable rewards. Yet, among all these fundamental duties, Salah stands completely alone. Falling short in other pillars is a major sin, but completely abandoning your daily prayer carries the heaviest warning in the entire religion: if you leave this, you might be considered a kafir.
The Door and the Pillars
While Hajj is required once in a lifetime, Fasting once a year, and Zakat once per wealth cycle, Salah cannot be paused for anything. It is required five times every single day.
It is the primary covenant that guards our faith and separates belief from disbelief:
"Between a man and polytheism and unbelief is the abandonment of prayer." (Sahih Muslim 82)
Furthermore, Salah is the very first deed we will answer for on the Day of Resurrection:
"Indeed, the first deed by which a servant will be called to account on the Day of Judgment is his Salat." (Jami at-Tirmidhi 413)
The warnings surrounding missing Salah are the heaviest in Islam, and scholars have never treated them lightly. However, declaring a specific person a disbeliever belongs exclusively to qualified scholars, not to social media comment sections or casual gossip. Take these severe warnings as a reminder for yourself to establish your prayer, not as a tool to judge others.
If you have fallen behind, you are not alone. What matters most is your next prayer. You can start building consistency today:
