Israel getting a new capital?

President Trump’s recent statement on recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital has created quite a stir all over the world, especially among Muslims! This alarming statement was made by the US President on the 6th of December 2017. US plans to go ahead with this as the President has announced plans to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem!

This statement has met massive opposition from Muslims as well as non-Muslims. A lot of non-Muslim leaders are against this blatant move. The UN Secretary General, António Guterres, criticized the decision;

“There is no alternative to the two-state solution: two states living side-by-side in peace, security and mutual recognition – with Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and Palestine.”

Theresa May, Prime Minister of the UK, believes that this decision is not conducive to a peaceful environment in the region. Similarly the French President, Emmanuel Macron, and EU Chief Diplomat, Federica Mogherini, also expressed their disapproval over the situation. Demonstrations against the proposal have already started in Gaza and Turkey.

Jerusalem holds religious significance for Muslims, Christians and Jews alike. Masjid al-Aqsa is located here, in the Old City of Jerusalem. It is the third holiest site in Islam and carries great importance for Muslims.

“Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al- Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing. And We gave Moses the Scripture and made it a guidance for the Children of Israel that you not take other than Me as Disposer of affairs, O descendants of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah. Indeed, he was a grateful servant. And We conveyed to the Children of Israel in the Scripture that, "You will surely cause corruption on the earth twice, and you will surely reach [a degree of] great haughtiness.” (Quran, 17:1-4)

This decision is expected to have some devastating repercussions due to which most of the world leaders are vocally against it. May Allah (SWT) save us all from the tyrants who only want to spread violence and create unrest for their evil purposes!

So they said, "Upon Allah do we rely. Our Lord, make us not [objects of] trial for the wrongdoing people. And save us by Your mercy from the disbelieving people." (Quran 10:85-86)
