Muhammad Bin Khalid  .  Thursday November 08, 2018
 . Current Affairs

Maulana Sami ul Haq, a religious and political leader, of Pakistan was stabbed to death at a house in Rawalpindi, Pakistan on 2nd November, 2018 by unknown attackers. Some sources suggest that he has been stabbed with a knife several times while some say that he was shot dead after being tortured with knife. The nature of attack and motive behind it is still unknown.

His eldest son, Maulana Hamid ul-Haq, said that his father was suffering from a heart condition and was resting in his room when the attackers came. Maulana’s bodyguard and driver were out at that time and found his body filled with blood when they returned. He was immediately taken to a district hospital in Rawalpindi, where he passed away. His son says that:

"My father could not join the protest in Islamabad due to road blockage and returned to his house for rest due to his old age"

He also said that:

"His driver went out for half an hour and when he returned, he found Maulana lying in a pool of blood"

Speaking to a local news channel, Maulana Haseem, a central leader of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Sami, confirmed the death of Maulana Sami ul Haq.

Federal Human Rights Minister of Pakistan, Shireen Mazari, strongly condemned the killing of Maulana Sami ul Haq in the following tweet.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, looked into the situation by asking for a report immediately and said that:

"Maulana Sami ul Haq's political and religious services for the country will always be remembered"
See: Duas at times of worry and sorrow

He had also directed the Federal Minister, Faisal Vawda, to contact Maulana’s family as soon as possible saying that the family should not be left alone. Naeem ul Haq, special assistant to PM, had also condemned the killing of Maulana Sami ul Haq saying:

"The martyrdom of Maulana is a big tragedy for the nation"

He also said that Maulana had met Prime Minister Imran Khan fifteen days ago as part of government's efforts to introduce modern education in religious madrassas. Last month, an Afghan delegation met with Maulana Samiul Haq and asked him to play a mediating role in peace talks with the Taliban. Maulana agreed to play a part for peace efforts in Afghanistan.

Maulana Sami ul-Haq was also known as the "Father of the Taliban" for having taught some of the prominent Taliban leaders in his seminary; Darul Uloom Haqqania, which he has been running from several decades, in Pakistan's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, near the Afghanistan border.

Sami ul Haq’s death is indeed a huge loss for the Islamic World as he has played a pivotal role in stopping soviet invasion of Afghanistan, in peace making of US and Talibans and also in spreading Islamic Knowledge. Please take some time to recite Surah Fatiha for him and pray for the well-being of the whole Muslim Ummah.
