American Muslims Raise Funds for Victims of Sri Lanka Attacks!

Devastated by the news of the terrorist attacks targeting Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday, a leading American Muslim charity has launched a fundraising campaign to help the victims. Muslim Aid USA wrote on Launchgood page:
“We cannot allow community cohesion to be broken. As communities are hurting and need to be rebuilt, the least we can do is to offer our support to those who have been hurt and need some healing.”

Eight explosions took place on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka, including in three Christian churches and three hotels, some commonly used by foreign visitors. In addition to 207 people who were killed at least 450 were wounded, according to officials with police, the Colombo Hospital, and St. Sebastian Church. Muslim Aid warned that the attacks were planned to ignite inter-communal violence. The Islamic Charity wrote:
“Whilst the identities of the perpetrators have yet to be confirmed; the attacks were designed to not only inflict maximum damage on a day when churches would be the most crowded, but the attacks were designed to ignite inter-communal violence.” 
Till the time of writing, the page has raised more than $12,000 out of a targeted $20,000. All fundraising proceeds will be distributed to the families of the 200+ dead directly through Muslim Aid USA.
A silence hung over the city, every street and lane was decked out in black-and-white flags, and shops and markets were closed, especially Muslim-owned businesses in Tamil areas. They hung black-and-white flags outside the shuttered storefronts in solidarity with the grieving.
Helping others in times of difficulty is what humanity means and Islam teaches us Muslims to adhere to it in all the ways possible. Our fellow Muslims in the US have taken this initiative and we urge others who can to also contribute and assist in whatever way they can! May Allah (SWT) help us all. Ameen.
