Muslims in India have long been victims of some of the worst communal violence activities around the world. Yet never has it been more dangerous to be a Muslim in India.
The recently amended citizenship law has become a tool to strip millions of Muslims of their Indian citizenship. Additionally, the Modi government had placed Kashmir under total lockdown for almost 8 months and counting. Due to these stringent measures by the government, Muslims across India came out on streets in protest against the new law. Since December, the Indian Capital New Delhi has become a battleground of identities and ideologies. Hundreds of Muslims have been protesting against the citizenship law.
To curb these protests, the government called in the police, which resulted in severe clashes across the country. Recently, Modi delivered hate speeches against Muslims which impelled the Hindu ultranationalists into action. They made Muslim communities a target for their brutality. As a result, many Muslim neighborhoods in Delhi burned down.
Furthermore, the health ministry officials blamed an Islamic Seminary for the spread of Coronavirus in India. A fresh spree of anti-muslim attacks broke out across the country, with the violence in the capital rising to a new high.
More than 53 Muslims are dead and 250 injured in the capital. More than 5000 Muslims are now living in makeshift relief camps set up for those who fled the riots. The clusters of tents are overcrowded and lack basic amenities for sanitation and hygiene.
In trying times like these, Human Concern International is a Canadian organization working to protect the lives of the affected Muslims living in the shelters, by providing them with relief kits. Each relief kit contains food, clothes, toiletries and educational supplies for children. Each kit costs $100.
Your donation is very important to ensure the survival of Muslims at risk in India. Every relief kit you donate ensures a better chance for a safer future of an affected family. With the countrywide lockdowns imposed due to the coronavirus epidemic, these struggling Muslim families only have your donations to see them through these difficult times. Give with an open heart, because your donations will make their world better.
Donate to Human Concern International and become a hope for the affected families.
