Do Muslims celebrate Christmas?

Christmas brings about an air of festivity with it for people living in non-Muslim countries, similar to the hustle bustle one can see in the month of Ramadan and on the events of Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha in Muslim countries. Even though Muslims do not celebrate Christmas but they do enjoy the festivities (holidays and end of season sales ONLY). However, they do not perform the rituals specific to Christianity performed by Christians during the season or perform any other act that is considered Haram in Islam.
Similar to Christians, Muslims also hold a lot of respect for Prophet Isa (AS) / Jesus and his mother, Maryam (AS) / Mary. In Islam, great significance is given to the two figures, so much so there is a complete chapter in the Holy Quran named after Maryam (AS). In Surah Maryam, Allah (SWT) says:
 “That is Jesus, the son of Mary - the word of truth about which they are in dispute.” (Quran 19:34) 
Muslims remember Maryam (AS) and Prophet Isa (AS) with great reverence as Isa (AS) was one of the Prophets of Allah (SWT) and as Muslims, we have grown up listening to the stories of Prophet Isa (AS) and his mother, Maryam (AS), a pious woman who devoted her life to worshipping Allah (SWT). 
Islam teaches Muslims to be tolerant hence, we have it in our religious guidelines that we have to show tolerance to people of other faiths and be the best example for them so that they get inspired and follow suit. 
“Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.” (Quran 60:8) 



Christmas is a time when many people get holidays and hence get a chance to spend time with their family and friends. Muslims living in non-Muslim countries make the most of the Christmas vacations by planning their holidays accordingly and spending time with their families. These holidays give the Muslim immigrants, who have left their native countries in search of income, a chance to visit their families in their home countries. Moreover, they get a chance to bring back presents for their families due to the stellar sales in place during the Christmas season. 
In essence, Muslim scholars are against Christmas celebrations however as Muslims we have been taught to show tolerance to other religions and their rituals.
