“I Wanted To Kill Muslims. Now I Am One.”The former U.S. Marine, Richard McKinney, planned to blow up an Islamic Center, but in a heated moment witnessed by his young daughter, he started questioning his hate. Therefore, resulting in a twist of fate!
Relying partly on his experience as a Marine, this Veteran made an improvised explosive device he planned to detonate near a mosque, resulting in massive casualties. Such a scene is neither unfamiliar or difficult to imagine. Just this month, the terrorist attacks in New Zealand showed how hate and Islamophobia can culminate in violent terrorism. Not only did McKinney not go through with his attack, he opened himself to learn and experience what it actually means to live as a Muslim in America.
Now known as Omar Saeed Ibn Mac, the Ball State senior and retired Marine sergeant, is the president of the Islamic Center of Muncie, Indiana, and he’s making efforts to “educate and inform” people about the true Islam.
