Islam Is the Religion of Kindness

Kindness is a movement. Our one small act of kindness can initiate a massive ripple effect that impacts the entire society.

We, as human beings, are not free of mistakes. However, we can always choose to be kind in response to errors, not just to others but also ourselves.

LET’S START WITH OURSELVES

Our Prophet Muhammad SAW is the epitome of kindness, considering that his each and every action was signed with thoughtfulness and compassion. We can follow the same path by following these 4 simple steps before acting on our instincts:

  • Think before speaking our minds.

  • Forgive instead of seeking revenge.

  • Hold on to long-term satisfaction instead of short-term pride.

  • Remember that no one is perfect, so be gracious for everything we have.

SIDE NOTE: KINDNESS IS FOR EVERYONE

Kindness has no room for discrimination. However, moderation is always key!

And do not give the weak-minded your property, which Allāh has made a means of sustenance for you, but provide for them with it and clothe them and speak to them words of appropriate kindness.” – (An-Nisa: 5)

INITIATE SELF-REFLECTION

The best way to ensure we reflect Islam as the religion of kindness and mercy is to pose it as one by practicing the good deed ourselves. We can do that by asking ourselves these questions time and again:

  • Have I been kind enough to those in need lately? If not, what can I do to make up for my mistake?

  • Am I being kind to others in hopes of getting recognized by people or Allah?

  • Am I doing enough to change someone’s mind about their actions when they are unnecessarily unkind to others?

  • When was the last time I went out of my way to show affection or give compliments to someone I love?

  • Am I doing everything I can in my power to be there for those who look up to me when in need? Am I checking up on them enough?

  • What can I do to be a better Muslim?

PARTING WORDS

We are taught to maintain a healthy balance in society, in every facet of our lives. So, let us strive to be the Ummah that our Prophet Muhammad SAW would be proud of and that the Almighty will be pleased with on the Day of Judgement. Ameen.
