Muslims plan prayer event to remember Quebec Mosque shooting victims.

The Date January 29 marks one of the most tragic incidents to have been encountered in Canada. The attack took place two years ago and the innocent lives of our fellow Muslims were lost.

It is decided that an interfaith prayer service be held at Kitchener City Hall in Canada on the 29th of January, to commemorate the second anniversary of the victims of the terrorist shooting attack at Quebec Mosque. This has been reported by Kitchener Today. The organizer, Sarah Shafiq, stated in a press release that:

“We’ll remember the victims, reaffirm our commitment to protect all faith communities and share our concerns regarding Islamophobia.”

The vigil is being organized by several organizations such as the Coalition of Muslim Women, Islamic Humanitarian Service, Interfaith Grand River, Islamic Centre of Cambridge along with other Canadian partners.

Shafiq also said that:

“At the same time, we want to celebrate the support we received from the wider community after the shooting. Such actions push back the darkness of hate and intolerance.”

This is just not it but also, remarkably, there will be a call at the local service to designate the date January 29 as a National Day of Action Against Hate and Intolerance in Quebec, Canada. It is clearly known that the Islamophobic terrorist attack led to the death of six Muslim Canadians and 19 others were hurt when a Canadian lone gunman terrorist opened fire at a mosque in Quebec City back in January 29, 2017.

In spite of the terrorist attack, the Muslim Canadian community organized the first-ever ‘Visit My Mosque Day’ in Canada on 15 of October in 2017. According to Canada’s 2011 National Household Survey, there were 1,053,945 Muslims in Canada, or about 3.2% of the population, positioning Islam as the second largest religion in the country after Christianity.

In fact, Muslim of Canada don’t form a ghetto minority group of closed circles. On the contrary, Muslims are one of the most sociable, cooperative and supportive religious populations in Canada. Isn’t that a great thing to know for us? Well, of course! When the incident occurred, the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also condemned and said a few words in a video posted on BBC.

Several Islamic centers and mosques in the North American country provided aid and charity as well as societal initiatives for the needy of the Canadian society during the past Christmas and winter vacation at the end of December 2018. All this work is not just restricted to specific times of the year but whenever there is a need to pull off such initiatives for everyone living there. No doubt, the importance of humanity greatly persists in the religion Islam.

We all should pray to Allah (SWT) that may the effort to help others and incentives for securing fellow Muslims increase even more with time. May Muslim voices keep getting heard and whatever happens be best for us, all by the will of Allah (SWT). Let others also know of the initiatives taken in Canada.
