RIS Convention 2021: Why Is It Important for the Muslim Community?

With a goodwill sponsorship from ‘Islamic Relief Canada’ and ‘Zabiha Halal,’ the RIS Convention 2021 will be held on 25-26 December in Canada. The event, however, is staged globally, considering that everyone can grab their tickets online to join the virtual convention.

While the RIS event usually brings several distinguished Islamic scholars together under one platform, this has not been possible since 2020 because of the recent COVID-19 update.

Nevertheless, despite the pandemic, the online international summit last year didn’t disappoint in terms of uniting thousands of visitors from all corners of the world. Case in point, the turnout in December 2020 was just as overwhelming, if not more than what we used to witness before the pandemic.

That said, here are a few reasons why this event holds so much importance and interest for the Muslim community worldwide:

1) The RIS Convention offers a neutral platform for Muslims to get their point across intelligibly. This is where a group of well-respected Islamic scholars and researchers sketch a fundamental picture of Islam for the whole world to see.

2) Events like the “RIS Convention” also highlight the importance of following hygienic practices while learning the teachings of Islam, especially amidst the pandemic. In short, this helps spread the message among the Muslims and Non-Muslims regarding how our religion exhibits nothing but patience and order - no matter the circumstances.

3) The RIS Convention can also be seen as a supporting program for the new Muslim converts. Every year, at least a few Islamic scholars join the event to deliver speeches, highlighting subjects specifically interesting for Muslims who have recently accepted Islam.

4) Lastly, it’s worth mentioning that events like RIS Convention feature the Muslim community in a praiseworthy light. These events prove to the rest of the world, specifically the Non-Muslim community, that the Muslim Ummah actively works on making this world a better place to live in - spiritually, mentally, and physically.
