INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 4 cups milk
  • 3 tsp sugar, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons pure finely ground orchid root "sahlab" (if available otherwise the drink can still be made)
  • 2 tbsp rose water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp pistachios, finely chopped
  • 4 dashes cinnamon

DIRECTIONS

  1. Mix cornstarch with two tablespoons of the milk until smooth.
  2. Bring remaining milk to a boil, stir in the dissolved starch, whisking with a whisk so that the liquid gets smooth.
  3. Simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes, then stirring constantly until milk thickens.
  4. Stir in sugar and vanilla extract and simmer.
  5. Mix sahlab powder with a little milk and cornstarch to form a past and add it, stirring for a few seconds.
  6. Add rose water and turn the flame off.
  7. Serve hot in cups or mugs, garnish with chopped pistachios and cinnamon. Can be served cold as a dessert.
