Muslim football players bring home the World Cup!

The French national team earned the victory for the second time in FIFA World Cup since 1998. The final was held in Moscow this Sunday and France reigned over it, besting Croatia by 4 goals to 2. The team comprised of one of the most diverse players in the league, winning the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

In the words of the French Coach, Didier Deschamps,

“We are world champions and France is going to be on top of the world for the next four years.”

The French team comprises of seven players from a Muslim background; Adil Rami (of Moroccan descent), Djibril Sidibé (of Malian descent), Benjamin Mendy (of Senegalese descent), Paul Pogba (of Guinean descent), N’Golo Kanté (of Malian descent), Nabil Fekir (of Algerian descent) and Ousmane Dembélé (of Malian descent). Initially, it was Pogba who made it to the headlines when he traveled to Makkah, Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah prior to the World Cup. It was also thrilling for the crowd to see Dijbril Sidibe and Paul Pogba fall in prostration, in gratitude to Allah (SWT), upon winning the game.

The diversity and success of the team turned out to be highly significant for the immigrants due to the well-known anti-immigrant sentiment France holds; especially for Africans. It caused celebrations to cascade all over France and various other countries. The victory has sown the seeds of hope for the Muslim and African community. The victory is surely a matter of pride for the Muslim community as the Muslim players in the France team led it to this huge achievement, making history. This win has proved to be a great measure of recognition for Muslims worldwide. Along with the Muslims, Africans had a huge role in this achievement as the team consisted of 15 African players!

We congratulate France for winning the FIFA World Cup 2018 as it is not just a win for France but is a win for the Muslims and Africans as well. Let us pray for our fellow Muslims to keep earning victories like these and prove their capabilities throughout the world from time to time.
