Trump is going to order a ban on refugees

20th January was the day when Donald Trump was handed over the office of the President of United States. Within a few days, however, President Trump has managed to create unrest in the country. From the turnout on the day of his inauguration to the Women’s March, a lot has been communicated by the residents of America for their new President.

After the elections and before the inauguration, people were anticipating his future moves based on his presidential election speeches. Now that he has the oval office, it appears that he’s going to do exactly as he promised in the campaigns.

Donald Trump is going to sign executive orders that will put a temporary ban on refugees beginning from Wednesday, 25th of January. Additionally, suspension of visas is also in process for the citizens of Middle Eastern countries including Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan and Somalia. It appears that Trump is being true to his promise of banning entry of Muslims in the United States (even on valid visas).

In addition to this, Donald Trump tweeted last night that Wednesday is going to be the “Big Day” regarding national security and that his plan of building the wall on the Mexican border is still intact.

The ban on refugees is going to last for several months till an aggressive policy is devised. This ban will exempt religious minorities for the time being. According to Reuters, another order will block visas being issued to anyone from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, said the aides and experts, who asked not to be identified.

According to Stephen Legomsky, (former) chief counsel at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services during Obama’s presidency, stated that Trump, as president, has the authority to limit the entry of refugees in the country.

These measures will be implemented soon and have already scared the minorities in America, especially Muslims. With the war in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, the refugee crisis is the most important issue at the moment and banning their entry in the US is not going to help the situation. Additionally, rejecting already accepted visas of people from Muslim countries, especially the Middle East, is a major cause of concern.

Students and professionals from the Middle East are fearing deportation even after having valid visas. It is advised that people from the Middle East who are currently in America should be aware of their rights and duties and in the case of any confusion, should contact international immigration attorneys.

Only time will tell us about the future of Muslims (and refugees) in America but for now, it’s obscure.
