INGREDIENTS
Potatoes – 500g
- For Seasoning
Red chili flakes – 1 tsp.
Crushed green chili – 1.5 tsp.
Crushed ginger – 0.5 tsp.
Crushed garlic – 0.5 tsp.
Coriander leaves – 0.5 tsp.
- For Batter
Flour – 200g
Red chili powder – 1 tsp.
Turmeric powder – 0.5 tsp.
Cumin (crushed) – 0.8 tsp.
Baking soda – 0.2 tsp.
Salt – as needed
Water – as needed (to make a mildly thick batter)
- For Tempering
Oil – for deep frying
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp.
Curry leaves – 5g
DIRECTIONS
1- Boil potatoes in a wok. Peel them afterward and mash evenly.
2- Add the ingredients mentioned in the ‘Seasoning’ section to the bowl with the mashed potatoes and mix gently.
3- Divide the spicy mashed potatoes into small, equal-sized round chunks.
4- Now, make a mildly thick batter using the ingredients mentioned in the ‘Batter’ section.
5- Heat oil in a pan, then add mustard seeds and curry leaves until they cackle.
6- Dip the potato balls into the batter and deep-fry them in the tempered oil until they’re golden brown from the outside.
7- Serve hot with a chutney of your choice!
