As Muslims, we follow the Islamic teachings and incorporate relatable practices in our lifestyle as they benefit us spiritually, physically, and mentally. Many of these habits are also affirmed by science, confirming that the Islamic insights on leading a positive and healthy life are spot on!

So, here are 9 Islamic tips on how you can reach your health and wellness goals the right way:

1- Practice Moderation In Diet

Eating and drinking in moderate portions is also an act of worship as our Prophet Muhammad SAW emphasized its importance on more than one occasion.

The Islamic practice suggests that our diet should be proportioned such that the stomach is filled with one-third of food, one-third of liquid, and one-third of breath.

Science also proves that this one-third rule is the best diet approach as it keeps us from overeating while helping with weight loss, eating disorders, and anxiety.

2- Refrain from Consuming Alcohol or Pork

The dietary restriction on alcohol and pork in Islam is also there for a reason. Consuming alcohol and pork introduces several illnesses to our bodies, targeting different organs.

While Islam has always stressed the importance of avoiding these two prohibitions, now science also backs this up with several theories on how consuming alcohol and pork destroy our system and impact our physical and mental health negatively.

3- Eat Slowly

Eating slowly helps with the digestion process.

In other words, when we take our time chewing the food, it aids our body digest the contents without requiring excessive energy from our stomach or intestine.

4- Hydrate the Right Way

Science today proves that drinking too much water in a short time can cause headaches, dizziness, and imbalance in blood electrolytes level.

On the other hand, drinking slowly and in short gulps is Sunnah. Also, it helps our body absorb fluids better, resulting in good hydration and health.

5- Don’t Forget About Dental Hygiene

Sadly, dental hygiene is one of the most neglected areas when it comes to health maintenance. Despite the laxity, several studies show that a large percentage of people neglecting dental hygiene get more at risk of heart diseases.

The importance of dental hygiene can also be proven with the fact that our Prophet Muhammad SAW always used Miswak before and after bed, giving special attention to dental cleanliness.

6- Avoid Giving In to Anger

Anger gives way to several other bad qualities as it is. However, it should be noted that giving in to this poisonous feeling also puts our heart at greater risk, increasing chances of a stroke and weakening our immune system.

7- Stay Active

Islam says that a stronger believer, in health and in mind, is more dearest to Allah, especially when one has total control over their body and doesn’t suffer from any threatening disease.

After all, one who is physically stronger is also more energetic in their faith and performance of worship for Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.

8- Allow Yourself a Good Night’s Sleep

Prophet Muhammad SAW never deprived himself of a good night’s sleep nor did he ever oversleep. He slept in the early part of the night after Isha and and woke up early in the morning before Fajr.

Science also shows that this ‘early to bed and early to rise’ schedule helps us maintain a healthy BMI, stay more productive in the day, and avoid serious health problems, including obesity, diabetes, and heart diseases.

9- There Is a Cure In Salah

Lastly, let’s not forget about the heart – one of the most vital organs in our body. The movements during Salah are an excellent source of exercise for the heart as they keep the blood flowing.

Not to mention, praying keeps our Qalb clean from all impure thoughts, positively boosting our mindful wellness.
