Charitable contributions come in many forms

In Islam, charity comes in many forms. Every deed that is a source of relief for the other is charity. It includes simple gestures from smiling towards others to giving out monetary benefits for the needy. 
Treating people with kindness and being there for them when they need your help the most is also charity. Even planting a tree counts as a charitable act because someone may benefit from its shade, and you will receive its reward from Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:
“A charity is due for every joint in each person on every day the sun comes up: to act justly between two people is a charity; to help a man with his mount, lifting him onto it or hoisting up his belongings onto it, is a charity; a good word is a charity, and removing a harmful thing from the road is a charity.” (Al-Bukhari)
Furthermore, the Holy Quran states: 
“Those who spend their wealth [in Allah's way] by night and by day, secretly and publicly - they will have their reward with their Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.” (Surah Baqarah:274)
