If you find yourselves thirstier than usual leading up to the days and during periods, you are not alone! Dehydration during periods can happen due to several reasons, the most likely being hormonal fluctuations.

Dehydration During Periods

Unfortunately, menstrual dehydration can worsen some already painful periods-related symptoms for many women, including:

  • Fatigue

  • Bloating

  • Headache

  • Cramps

  • Constipation

  • Diarrhea

How to Treat Menstruation Dehydration?

To avoid menstruation dehydration, one must practice a higher water intake along with keeping aware of mistakes that generally lead bodies to lose water more rapidly.

Here are a few tips that will help you treat menstruation dehydration effectively:

  • Consume at least 9 to 10 glasses of water per day. Set multiple alarms or reminders throughout the day for this so that you can maintain a healthy hydration level.

  • Avoid caffeine as much as possible, since it contributes to period cramps and also increases the amount of water your body loses, triggering dehydration.

  • Headache, bloating, cramps, constipation, fatigue, and diarrhea – all these symptoms indicate dehydration during periods. Therefore, drinking a glass of water should always be your first course of action when feeling any of these symptoms.

While maintaining a healthy hydration level may not eliminate all those unpleasant sensations that come as a package deal with periods, consuming more water definitely reduces their intensity and keeps you relatively comfortable.
