Orphans in need...

No doubt, the biggest loss one can suffer from, is the loss of a beloved one. For children who bear the excruciating pain of an elderly shadow being snatched when they are meant to be cocooned, it is far-fetched to eradicate the soreness.

The unprivileged, parent deprived kids, are termed ‘Yatim’ in the Holy Quran. They are called orphans which literally stands for children who have been abandoned or ones with deceased parents. Islam being the religion of peace and tranquility endorses the significance of looking after these kids. Moreover, in the Quran, the topic on orphans has been mentioned for over twenty times and is also signified by the Hadith and Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) countlessly. The orphans are so deserving of kindness in the eyes of Islam that, it is mentioned vividly in the Quran,

“…..and (you shall do) good to (your) parents, and to the near of kin and to the orphans….” (Surah Baqarah: 83)

These parentless souls are deprived of even their meagre living resources. They have to fend for themselves as they do not have a guardian to turn to which is very traumatic. However, their agony can be pacified to an extent by dispensing compassion and affection.

It is one's responsibility to play an active role in an orphan’s upbringing. They should be treated as one’s own progeny. They should be cared for, fed properly, their property should be looked after loyally, and their charity should not be used for personal profit. Charity homes and adoption parents should be accountable for an orphan’s nourishment and assets.

It is frowned upon in Islam to consume an orphan’s property, for Allah (SWT) is displeased with the one who withholds an orphan’s share. Looking after an orphan can also be an act to replenish one’s overdrawn account of good deeds. Any act of kindness toward an orphan will yield rewards in the hereafter. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) has also narrated its significance rendering equivalency between worship and caring for a Yatim by ushering,

"The person who strives on behalf of the widows and poor is like those who strive in the way of Allah and like those who fast in the day and pray at night."

And

"I and the guardian of an orphan will be in the Garden like these two." (His two fingers) (Abu Hurayra)

Thus, so exalted is the status of a person providing to the parentless child’s needs, one who is not guarded by the cape of parenthood. As the orphans are deserving of one’s provisions. They are worthy of a share of the wealth that one earns.

It is undeniable that there is severe punishment decided by Allah (SWT) for the one who ill-treats an orphan or deprives the ‘Yatim’ from its rights. The Quran strictly mentions,

“Indeed, those who devour the property of orphans unjustly are only consuming into their bellies fire and they will be burned in a blaze.” (Surah Al Nisa: 10)

Thus the inevitable doom of Hell fire awaits the one who is unjust toward a parentless feeble child.

Many initiatives have been taken, such as the one by Human Concern International (HCI), to shelter and protect these orphans. If anyone wants to donate for the noble cause of lessening the pain and endeavors of an orphaned child, HCI is the to go organization as it works for the betterment of these children, to provide them an auspicious prospect at a good and healthy life.
